Kyrgyz, Kuwaitis sign religious co-operation deal

BISHKEK, May 2 (CentralAsiaOnline) – The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan (DUMK) and the Foreign Affairs Department of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs recently signed a religious co-operation agreement, the DUMK website said April 30.
The agreement was signed during a visit to Kuwait by Kyrgyz Mufti Chubak azhy Zhapilov, DUMK said. Kuwait agreed to let Kyrgyz students study in Kuwait City and enrol in seminars for raising imams’ qualifications. Kuwait also expressed willingness to help build mosques in Kyrgyzstan.
Deputy Kuwaiti Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Isa Ubeidii agreed to serve as a consultant on Waqf Fund measures undertaken by the Kyrgyz muftiate. The fund was founded in January to restore order to finances controlled by the muftiate.
