Kyrgyzstan Commemorates 67th Anniversary of Victory Day

BISHKEK, May 10 (Xinhua) - Commemorations dedicated to the 67th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 were held here Wednesday.
The event took place in the capital's Victory Square. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, Speaker of Parliament Asylbek Jeenbekov and Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov presented flowers to Eternal Flame.
In his speech, President Atambayev said "In the Soviet Army fought bravely 360 thousand natives of Kyrgyzstan. Their names are inscribed in the annals of glorious holy war".
"For courage, heroism and bravery shown in combat against the Nazis, more than 150 thousand soldiers and officers were awarded orders and medals, 22 Kyrgyzstani became full holders of the Order of 'Glory,' and seventy-three were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union," Atambayev recalled.
"We must cherish and honor those veterans who are still among us, and in Kyrgyzstan, which has less than two thousand. Congratulations to all of you from the heart of this saint for each of us a holiday! Happy Victory Day!" the president congratulated.
At the end of the event, Bishkek garrison troops held a parade. Veterans and guests were treated to a traditional soldier's lunch -- porridge and front-line "100 grams".
The president, the Speaker of Parliament and the prime minister went to the soldier tents and had the dinner with veterans of World War II.
