MINSK, October 29 (TCA) — CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha hopes that Uzbekistan’s CSTO participation suspension is temporary, BelTA reported on Friday.
“Uzbekistan has decided to suspend participation in CSTO. We hope that this suspension is temporary,” said Bordyuzha, noting that it is not big problem for the CSTO.
In turn, he added that the media “started talking that the organization had become weak and inefficient due to Uzbekistan’s decision. I believe it to be a groundless conclusion.”
Bordyuzha believes that CSTO has significant potential.
He also stated that the withdrawal of Uzbekistan from CSTO taskforces would allow the organization to go ahead with the measures that Uzbekistan opposed.
“I think that on 19 December [the meeting of the Collective security Council – BelTA] the Presidents will take the final decision on the issue,” Bordyuzha said.
