KARATAU, January 15 (TCA) — Communications have been partially restored in disaster-hit Karatau in south Kazakhstan, Interfax reported.
“Telephones are working in administrative buildings and some of the apartments. Restoration works are under way. Electricity supply is being restored as well: partially via connection of reserve power generators brought over by rescuers and partially via restoration of some of the power lines. Power is already supplied to the boiler houses to maintain heating communications operational,” the message from regional administration states.
According to the statement, the commission for prevention and elimination of emergency situations plans to start heating supplies to apartments and social buildings in 10-12 hours.
Yesterday, bad weather and wind has caused an emergency in the south of Kazakhstan.
According to the country’s Emergency Situations Ministry, residents of Zhualyn, Talas and Saryssu districts of Zhambyl region have lost electricity because of the strong wind.
Moreover, the blackout caused suspension of the central water supply and communications networks in the emergency situation area.
According to Tengrinews, the citizens of South-Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda regions also have suffered badly. The wind ripped off roofs and shattered windows in 11 schools, 3 kindergartens, 2 village administrations and 1 hospital. There have been reports that private houses were also damaged. Besides, several territories were flooded after abundant rain in Zhylga village of Saryagash district.
The Emergency Situations Ministry has held a meeting of the inter-authority state commission on the incident and made the instructions to its elimination.
