ASHGABAT, January 30 (TCA) — By 2017, Turkmenistan plans to build airport complex the largest in Central Asia, Neutral Turkmenistan reported today.
Reportedly, the project, developed by the Turkish Polimeks includes the construction of a terminal with the capacity to serve 1,600 passengers per hour and 3,800 meter-long runway.
According to Trend News, the construction of the new airport in Turkmenabat, the provincial capital of Lebap region is planned to be started this year. The terminal will be able to serve up to 500 passengers per hour.
The Ukrainian company Altcom will begin constructing a 3,800 meter artificial runway.
Turkmenistan has already put into operation a new airport complex in the city of Turkmenbashi capable of serving up to 800 passengers hourly. According to international standards, an automated air traffic control center to control transit aircraft has been built.
