Kazakhstan to start natural gas export to China on October 15

ASTANA (TCA) — JSC KazTransGas, Kazakhstan’s national gas transportation company, and PetroChina International Company Limited have signed a sales agreement on the supply of 5 billion cubic meters of Kazakh natural gas to China during one calendar year. The expected export revenue of KazTransGas should be about US $1 billion, the Kazakh company said.

Gas export deliveries are scheduled to begin on October 15. The resource base will be deposits in the west of Kazakhstan as well as available gas reserves from the underground gas storage facilities of JSC KazTransGas. The gas receiving point by the Chinese side is the border point Khorgos.

The Agreement was preceded by an intergovernmental Agreement between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of natural gas transportation and transit, which allows gas supplying from western Kazakhstan deposits to the southern regions in transit through Uzbekistan. This Agreement will simultaneously ensure stability in providing resources to the southern regions of Kazakhstan in the winter; on the other hand, ensure a stable gas supply for export to China.

Kairat Sharipbayev, vice president for gas transportation and marketing at KazMunayGas, said: “Diversification of transit and export routes for the Kazakh gas transportation, as well as the volume increase of the blue fuel export are important strategic tasks set by the President of Kazakhstan.”

The work carried out by the National Operator JSC KazTransGas fully complies with Kazakhstan’s strategic plans for the new Eurasian logistics infrastructure development. Deliveries of Kazakh gas to China will promote bilateral mutually beneficial relations aimed at creating a common infrastructure and establishing trade and transport links between the countries of the Eurasian region.
