DUSHANBE (TCA) — The United States Ambassador to Tajikistan, John Mark Pommersheim, on June 25 joined local authorities to celebrate the opening of the historical Oim Madrasa, the first educational institution for women in Tajikistan. Through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) program, the US Embassy awarded the Public Organization Imdodi Ghayrat a grant of $77,154 for the restoration and renovation of the rooms, walls, and roofs of the madrasa, the Embassy said.

TASHKENT (TCA) — The Tashkent City Court on June 26 sentenced former Uzbek Prosecutor-General Rashidjon Qodirov to 10 years in prison on corruption charges. The Court had found Qodirov guilty of bribe-taking, extortion, financial fraud, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, and money laundering, RFE/RL’s Uzbek Service reported.

NUR-SULTAN (TCA) — An agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on the establishment of the International Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures under the auspices of UNESCO was signed on June 25 in Paris.
