EU will have to accept EEU as equal dialogue partner — report

BISHKEK (TCA) — According to the Centre for Integration Studies of Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA, Austria), it is essential to step up efforts to normalise and develop relations between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) with the aim to reach a comprehensive integration agreement in the long run. This conclusion was presented in their report “European Union and Eurasian Economic Union: Long-Term Dialogue and Perspectives of Agreement” based on the results of the joint project “Challenges and Opportunities of Economic Integration within a wider European and Eurasian Space”, the EDB press office reported.

Uzbekistan government announces death of President Karimov

TASHKENT (TCA) — Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov, who ruled the country for a quarter-century, has died at the age of 78.

U.S. delegation to compete at Second World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek says that a U.S. delegation comprised of rodeo cowboys, Native American dancers, Peace Corps Volunteers, and an American Indian carpet weaver will participate in the Second World Nomad Games on September 3-8 in Cholpon Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

Kazakhstan to reduce dependence on raw materials, support exporters

ASTANA (TCA) — Speaking at a joint session of the Chambers of Parliament on September 1, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered to intensify work on reduction of the national economy’s dependence on raw materials and prioritized state support to enterprises producing non-raw materials and working for export, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan reported.

Uzbek Government says Karimov alive but in ‘critical’ condition

TASHKENT (TCA) — The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan said on its website on September 2 that during the past 24 hours, the health condition of President Islam Karimov has sharply worsened and medics have assessed it as “critical”.

The announcement has broken the Uzbek government’s silence concerning Karimov’s condition that caused speculation on his possible death.

Russian Fergana information agency reported on September 1 that preparations for what could be the funeral of Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov were underway on September 1 in his native city of Samarkand, after some unconfirmed media reports claimed that Karimov had passed away on August 29.
