U.S. government helps protect the rights of Kyrgyzstan migrant workers abroad

BISHKEK (TCA) — On April 10, the U.S. Government through USAID launched two information terminals at Manas International Airport in Bishkek to prevent human trafficking and protect the rights of Kyrgyzstani migrants traveling abroad, the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan said. Ten additional kiosks will be installed across the country. The kiosks will inform travelers about their rights and steps they can take to avoid becoming victims of human trafficking. The estimated 700,000 Kyrgyzstani migrants living and working abroad face frequent discrimination and a high risk of falling prey to human traffickers. Continue reading

Kazakhstan the leader in labor productivity among EEU countries

Uzbekistan: human rights activist forced into psychiatric detention

LONDON (TCA) — A prominent human rights activist has been forcibly subjected to psychiatric treatment in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. On March 1, 2017 Yelena Urlayeva, the chairperson of the Human Rights Alliance of Uzbekistan (HRAU) was arrested by police, who called an emergency psychiatric ambulance which transported her to hospital. US presents counter trafficking manuals and equipment to Uzbekistan

TASHKENT (TCA) — On February 27, U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen, along with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia Dan Rosenblum, presented manuals on counter trafficking for labor migrants to the National Human Rights Centre (NHRC) of Uzbekistan at a ceremony in Tashkent. The manual was developed through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) supported Counter Trafficking project, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The manual was written in coordination with the NHRC and the Office of the Prosecutor General, which chairs the National Inter-Agency Commission on Counter Trafficking.   Continue reading
