Japan provides $17.5 million for road maintenance in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE (TCA) — Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojidin Aslov and Chargé d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Tajikistan Takashi Kamada on March 2 signed exchange notes for the project “Improvement of equipment for the maintenance of roads in the Sughd province and eastern part of the Khatlon province” in Tajikistan, Avesta news agency reported.

EDB and ADB to invest $3b in Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan

BISHKEK (TCA) — The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a framework co-financing agreement, setting forth the main areas and mechanisms of cooperation in the EDB and ADB member states. The document states that the banks will invest in projects in Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. EDB will provide US $1 billion and the ADB US $2 billion until 2021, EDB’s press service said on March 2.

World Bank and Tajikistan launch new higher education project

DUSHANBE (TCA) — A launch ceremony for the Tajikistan Higher Education Project took place on March 1 in Dushanbe with the participation of representatives of the Executive Office of the President of Tajikistan, Ministry of Education and Science, Parliament, international development community, civil society, higher education institutions, and the World Bank. The goal of the project, financed from the International Development Association for the amount of US$15 million, is to develop mechanisms that improve and monitor the quality and labor-market relevance of higher education in the country, the World Bank said.
