Turkmenistan and UNICEF sign new Country Programme Action Plan

ASHGABAT (TCA) — Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan, Ms. Oyunsaikhan Dendevnorov, signed the Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) for the period of 2016-2020. The five-year cooperation programme is the result of the consultative process and strategic partnership between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNICEF to advance wellbeing of children and women in the country, UNICEF Turkmenistan said on March 23.

Khorgos FEZ attracting Chinese investors

ASTANA (TCA) — A forum aimed at attracting Chinese investors in the development of the Khorgos-Eastern Gates Free Economic Zone located on the Kazakh-Chinese border was held late last week in Nanjing, the main city of China’s Jiangsu province, said the press service of Kazakhstan’s national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).

UNDP completes Kyrgyz-Tajik cross-border infrastructure projects

BISHKEK (TCA) — The opening ceremony of three socially significant infrastructure sites was held last week in Samarkandek aiyl aimak (rural community) in the Batken province in southern Kyrgyzstan, the UNDP in Kyrgyzstan reported.

Tajikistan should see the crisis as opportunity for reform — ADB

DUSHANBE (TCA) — Urgent reforms are needed to improve Tajikistan’s economic competitiveness and diversification by unleashing the country’s potential for entrepreneurship and creativity. This may be achieved through creating an enabling environment for businesses, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises that can provide the bulk of the employment the country needs, Chang Ching Yu, Asian Development Bank’s Country Director in Tajikistan, wrote in his article “Tajikistan: Never waste a crisis – see it as opportunity for reform”, published on the ADB official website on March 18.

BISHKEK (TCA) — Authorities in Kyrgyzstan are investigating two audio recordings apparently featuring the voices of opposition politicians discussing ways to overthrow the government, RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service reported.
