World Bank and Tajikistan launch new higher education project

DUSHANBE (TCA) — A launch ceremony for the Tajikistan Higher Education Project took place on March 1 in Dushanbe with the participation of representatives of the Executive Office of the President of Tajikistan, Ministry of Education and Science, Parliament, international development community, civil society, higher education institutions, and the World Bank. The goal of the project, financed from the International Development Association for the amount of US$15 million, is to develop mechanisms that improve and monitor the quality and labor-market relevance of higher education in the country, the World Bank said.

Uzbekistan to ban incandescent lamps

TASHKENT (TCA) — Uzbekistan will ban the sale of incandescent lamps of more than 40W starting from 1 January 2017, Avesta news agency reported with reference to the Uzbek Embassy in Tajikistan.

ASTANA (TCA) — Demand for inexpensive foreign-made cars will remain stable in Kazakhstan for several years, Andrei Lavrentev, the chairman of the board of JSC Group of Companies Allur (Allur Group) and president of the Kazakhstan Association of Car Business, said at the Kazakhstan International Automotive Forum in Astana on March 1, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan reported on its website.

US supporting treatment of tuberculosis in south Kyrgyzstan
