Government, civil society, business addressing corruption risks in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — The Anticorruption Business Council of the Kyrgyz Republic will begin a review of laws that may impact effective protection of property rights of businesses and citizens. The primary goal of the initiative is to reduce the risk of corruption within judicial, fiscal, and law enforcement bodies that affect citizens and business. The project is being implemented with the support of the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), the US Embassy in Bishkek said on February 4.

IMF mission visits Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission led by Mr. Edward Gemayel visited Kyrgyzstan during January 29 to February 4 to discuss recent economic developments, government policies and economic prospects in the context of a challenging regional environment. The discussions also prepared the ground for the second review mission under the Fund supported Extended Credit Facility, tentatively scheduled for April 2016, the IMF said.

Kabul seeks India help with Iran-Afghanistan trade corridor

KABUL (TCA) — Afghanistan’s chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah, has called on Indian businesses to invest in his war-torn country — including development of a proposed trade corridor through Afghanistan that links Iran with India and Central Asia, RFE/RL’s Radio Free Afghanistan reported.

New remittance rules to penalize money recipients in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE (TCA) — An equivalent of up to US $50 million may be lost by Tajik families that receive money remittances from their relatives working in Russia and which are sent in Russian rubles, Avesta news agency reported.

Iran starts gas oil export to Tajikistan

DUSHANBE (TCA) — Iran has announced the official launch of its gas oil export to neighboring Tajikistan for the first time in the history of relations between the two countries, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported on February 3.

EBRD marks launch of Tajikistan Climate Resilience Financing Facility

DUSHANBE (TCA) — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in partnership with the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) of the Climate Investment Funds, held an event to mark the formal launch of CLIMADAPT, the Tajikistan Climate Resilience Financing Facility, on February 3 in Dushanbe. CLIMADAPT aims to help Tajik households, businesses and farmers cope with the effects of climate change and to support the country’s transition towards a green economy, the EBRD press office said.
