Central Bank announces currency exchange restrictions in Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT (TCA) — On January 12 the Central Bank of Turkmenistan published on its website a press release on introducing restrictions on free currency exchange in the country. The announcement for print media, however, was offered only in the Turkmen language. The press release is not available on the Russian or English versions of the website. Below is the translation of the announcement, made by the independent website Chronicles of Turkmenistan.

Uzbekistan to cut cotton production in favor of other crops

TASHKENT (TCA) — Uzbekistan will until 2020 reduce the production and state purchases of raw cotton from today’s 3.350 million down to 3 million tons a year, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said at the Government meeting on January 15, Novosti Uzbekistana reported.

Japan donates ambulance cars to Bishkek

BISHKEK (TCA) — On January 18 the city of Bishkek received nine new ambulance cars from the government of Japan for a total amount of 100 million yen (around US $800 thousand), the Embassy of Japan in the Kyrgyz Republic said.

Kazakhstan to cut oil production to 77 million tons in 2016

ASTANA (TCA) — Kazakhstan plans to produce 77 million tons of oil in 2016 compared to 79.460 million tons last year, Novosti-Kazakhstan news agency reported with reference to the country’s Energy Minister Vladimir Shkolnik.
