BISHKEK (TCA) — A capacity building workshop for Central Asian states entitled “Strengthening National, Sub-Regional and International Capacities to Prepare for and Respond to Deliberate Use of Biological Weapons” in the framework of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) is conducted from 26 to 27 June in Bishkek. The workshop was organized by UNODA’s Implementation Support Unit of the BWC in co-operation with the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan.
DUSHANBE (TCA) — The United States Ambassador to Tajikistan, John Mark Pommersheim, on June 25 joined local authorities to celebrate the opening of the historical Oim Madrasa, the first educational institution for women in Tajikistan. Through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) program, the US Embassy awarded the Public Organization Imdodi Ghayrat a grant of $77,154 for the restoration and renovation of the rooms, walls, and roofs of the madrasa, the Embassy said.
TASHKENT (TCA) — The Tashkent City Court on June 26 sentenced former Uzbek Prosecutor-General Rashidjon Qodirov to 10 years in prison on corruption charges. The Court had found Qodirov guilty of bribe-taking, extortion, financial fraud, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, and money laundering, RFE/RL’s Uzbek Service reported.
