ODIHR welcomes rejection of controversial draft NGO law in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — Michael Georg Link, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), on May 14 welcomed last Thursday’s rejection on third reading by the Jogorku Kenesh, Kyrgyzstan’s parliament, of draft legislation that would have imposed unnecessarily cumbersome reporting requirements for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Kyrgyzstan.

CASA-1000 energy project: four countries ready for long-term cooperation

BISHKEK (TCA) — The official launching ceremony of the Central Asia-South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA-1000) took place on May 12 in Tursunzade city located 60 kilometers from Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. The event was attended by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov, Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, and Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah.
