Kyrgyzstan preparing for Nomad Games, striving to improve tourism industry

BISHKEK (TCA) — The Second World Nomad Games will be held from September 3 to 8, 2016 at Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. An official website of the World Nomad Games (WNG) has been launched (http://worldnomadgames.com) which is available in three languages – Russian, Kyrgyz and English, and provides also a mobile version. During the Games, the schedule and program of all events and medal standings will be available on the website.

Merkel in Kyrgyzstan: no news from the western front

BISHKEK (TCA) — The visit of Germany’s Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to Bishkek this week, part of a tour in the region which also included Mongolia as the end destination to join a summit of Eurasian heads of government (including Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev and China’s Li Ke-qiang), has not gone unnoticed in Germany. In Kyrgyzstan, President Atambayev has seized the opportunity to boost his own profile. Substance and tangible results of the visit, however, look hard to distinguish.

EDB cautiously optimistic as to recovery of growth, trade in member countries

BISHKEK (TCA) — Despite the risks that remain due to low raw material prices and the condition of the global economy, the development of Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan) in the first six months of 2016 suggests they do adapt gradually to the shocks of several recent years. Negative trends in EDB economies that aggravated in 2015 because of falling raw material prices weakened to some extent, and the region’s economies began to improve their macroeconomic indicators in the first six months of 2016, including leading indicators, the rates of exchange, inflation expectations, and stabilization in the financial markets, EDB said with reference to the findings made in The Macroeconomic Review prepared by the Chief Economist Group at EDB.
