Centerra reports ‘important next step’ in advancing Mongolian gold project

BISHKEK (TCA) — Canada-based Centerra Gold Inc., the largest Western-based gold producer in Central Asia which is also developing the Kumtor gold deposit in Kyrgyzstan, on February 4 announced that the Mongolian Parliament had passed a resolution setting the state ownership interest in the Gatsuurt Project at 34% and authorizing the Mongolian government to complete negotiations with Centerra on the terms of such ownership.

Kyrgyzstan to privatize major mobile operator

BISHKEK (TCA) — The Kyrgyz Government plans to offer its shares of a major player in the country’s telecommunication market, Alpha Telecom CJSC (MegaCom brand), for sale through auction. The state owns 100% of the company’s shares. The company covers 98 percent of the country with mobile communication and has more than three million subscribers.
