First Tashkent–Tamchy flight brings tourists from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul

BISHKEK (TCA) — On June 27, Kyrgyzstan welcomed the first tourists from Uzbekistan to Issyk-Kul Lake on an inaugural flight from Tashkent to Tamchy. During the 2019 summer holiday season this international charter flight is expected to bring nearly 3,000 tourists. The flight marketing is provided thanks to assistance from the U.S. Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as part of its efforts to strengthen tourism and create jobs in Central Asia, the US Embassy in Bishkek reported.

New US ambassador to Turkmenistan begins his service

ASHGABAT (TCA) — The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Turkmenistan, Mr. Matthew S. Klimow, presented his credentials to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov on June 26. He serves as the eighth Ambassador of the United States to Turkmenistan, the US Embassy in Ashgabat said on June 27.

Central Asia states strengthen preparedness to respond to deliberate use of biological weapons

BISHKEK (TCA) — A capacity building workshop for Central Asian states entitled “Strengthening National, Sub-Regional and International Capacities to Prepare for and Respond to Deliberate Use of Biological Weapons” in the framework of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) is conducted from 26 to 27 June in Bishkek. The workshop was organized by UNODA’s Implementation Support Unit of the BWC in co-operation with the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan.

US provides assistance to preserve historical heritage in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE (TCA) — The United States Ambassador to Tajikistan, John Mark Pommersheim, on June 25 joined local authorities to celebrate the opening of the historical Oim Madrasa, the first educational institution for women in Tajikistan. Through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) program, the US Embassy awarded the Public Organization Imdodi Ghayrat a grant of $77,154 for the restoration and renovation of the rooms, walls, and roofs of the madrasa, the Embassy said.
