Multilateral development banks increase financing for CIS projects

BISHKEK (TCA) — Multilateral development banks (MDBs) increased financing for Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) projects, including in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, in Q2 2017 compared to Q1 2017 by 125% or up to US $2.36 billion, according to the Review of Investment Activities of Multilateral Development Banks in Q2 2017, distributed by Eurasian Development Bank’s Strategic and Sector Research Department.

Democracy camps empower young civic activists in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — In June and July, 120 secondary school students from around Kyrgyzstan participated in Democracy Camps in Issyk-Kul and Jalal-Abad. The U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), organizes these camps annually. During ten-day summer camps, the young citizens enjoyed sessions on critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, and community engagement. The students learned about civic and democratic values, electoral processes, and the importance of voting through games, art, role-play, and multimedia technology, the US Embassy in Bishkek reported.

Kyrgyzstan: officials shackle journalists with giant libel damages
