Trade between EDB countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, recovers in Q1 2017

BISHKEK (TCA) — In Q1 2017, stabilised raw material prices and, as a result, stabilised national exchange rates in most of Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) member countries — Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan — have ensured recovery in mutual trade in the region, according to the findings presented in the macroeconomic review prepared by the Chief Economist Group at EDB.

New mechanisms of attracting foreign investment discussed in Kazakhstan

ASTANA (TCA) — A forum to discuss new mechanisms of attracting foreign investments was held in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, on the initiative of the new Association COCAD (Consortium of Central Asia Development), which intends to assist in attracting foreign and domestic investment in the Kazakh economy, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan reported on May 26.

Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan greatly dependent on migrant labor

BISHKEK (TCA) — Kyrgyzstan has updated the historical maximum for remittances from Russia. In the first three months of 2017, labor migrants from Kyrgyzstan working in Russia transferred $433 million to their homeland, which is 67% more than in the same period in 2016, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan said. Prior to this, migrants transferred the most money for the same period in 2013 ($411.5 million).
