Chinese companies look to Almaty industrial zone

ALMATY (TCA) — A delegation from the city of Hancheng (Shaanxi Province, China) arrived in Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, in search of business partners, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan reported on its website on August 19. The delegation consisted of manufacturers of building materials, steel structures, electromechanical equipment, and ceramic products, as well as managers of Chinese travel agencies.

Uzbekistan’s banking system shows growth

TASHKENT (TCA) — The trust of foreign investors in the banks of Uzbekistan will be strengthened and the latter’s credibility in the international financial markets will grow. To a large extent, this will be facilitated by the stable outlook awarded to them by Moody’s for the seventh time, Uzbekistan’s official Jahon information agency reports with reference to the rating agency.

Kazakhstan, UNDP, Japan launch Kazakhstan’s assistance project for Afghanistan

ASTANA (TCA) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Development Programme, the Government of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency on 19 August launched a pilot project of Kazakhstan’s ODA aimed at expanding economic independence and rights of Afghan women and entitled “Promoting Kazakhstan’s ODA Cooperation with Afghanistan”. The project will mark Kazakhstan’s first international cooperation for Afghanistan in the framework of national system of Official Development Assistance (ODA), while it helps Kazakhstan to strengthen its ability to administer its future ODA. The project is financed by the Government of Japan through the UNDP-Japan Partnership Fund, UNDP Kazakhstan reported.

Kyrgyzstan: a quarter-century of post-Soviet illusions (part 1)

BISHKEK (TCA) — The month of August this year will mark a quarter century of so-called newly independent states following the implosion of the USSR. But transition to so-called market economy has not taken place as expected. The example of Kyrgyzstan, which is the first among post-Soviet Central Asian republics to mark its independence on August 31, demonstrates that the results are mixed.
