Homeowners evicted, their homes demolished in Turkmenistan capital ahead of Asian Games

ASHGABAT (TCA) — Two human rights groups — the Turkmen Initiative for Human Rights (TIHR) in Vienna and the New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) — said on September 4 that the Turkmen government had “forcibly evicted” homeowners in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat and demolished their homes “without adequate compensation” in preparation for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) Ashgabat will host this month.

BRICS member countries name Pakistan-based groups as security concern

BISHKEK (TCA) — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which comprise the BRICS grouping of the world’s leading emerging economies, at a summit in the Chinese city of Xiamen on September 4 called for an immediate end to violence in Afghanistan and issued a statement that includes for the first time Pakistan-based militant groups as a regional security concern, RFE/RL’s Radio Mashaal reports.

UNDP helps Turkmenistan improve foreign trade statistics

ASHGABAT (TCA) — The United Nations Development Program, in conjunction with the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, has undertaken the large task of translating the internationally recognised Eurotrace computer software from English into Russian. Now that this essential piece of software is accessible to staff, this will assist in increasing the skills of employees at the State Statistics Committee and the State Customs Service in preparing reports and processing information on the foreign trade of Turkmenistan, UNDP in Turkmenistan reported.
