World Bank diagnostics report presented at Astana Economic Forum in Kazakhstan

ASTANA (TCA) — At the presentation of the World Bank’s report on systemic diagnostics of the country in the light of the 25th anniversary of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the World Bank, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev addressed the participants of the Astana Economic Forum that opened on June 15 in Astana, the official website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported.

Kazakhstan’s Halyk Bank to acquire 96.81% of ordinary shares in Kazkommertsbank

ASTANA (TCA) — Kazakhstan’s Halyk Bank on June 15 announced the signing of the sale and purchase agreements with Mr. Kenges Rakishev to acquire 86.09% of ordinary shares of JSC Kazkommertsbank for a consideration of 1 Kazakhstan tenge, and separately with JSC Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna to acquire 10.72% of ordinary shares of Kazkommertsbank also for a consideration of 1 Kazakhstan tenge.

Rights organization calls for respect of Uyghur linguistic rights in China’s Xinjiang

URUMQI (TCA) — On the occasion of International Uyghur Language Day, June 15, the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) has called on all concerned individuals, human rights groups and governments to speak out against Chinese government policies aimed at undermining the linguistic rights of the Uyghur people in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. UHRP has also encouraged the international community to protect linguistic diversity as a critical aspect of building resilient ethnic minorities in an age of cultural assimilation.

Digital technologies can help Tajikistan diversify economy, make it more competitive

DUSHANBE (TCA) — Digital Tajikistan can be an important source of innovation, growth, and employment – provided that the country invests more in people’s skills, improves the business environment, and strengthens the digital infrastructure, according to a recent World Bank report, entitled Reaping Digital Dividends, that outlines routes and instruments needed to take full advantage of the Internet and new digital technologies. The report examines the impact of information technologies and the Internet on economic growth and the development of countries across Europe and Central Asia, including Tajikistan.
