Construction woes in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — A draft law “On the reconstruction and development of the historical center of the Bishkek city” has been submitted for public discussion. According to the initiator of the bill, MP Omurbek Tekebayev, the new law is aimed at streamlining the construction of new modern buildings in Bishkek based on a single integrated architectural plan.

World Bank supports governance and competitiveness in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK (TCA) — The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a US $24 million Programmatic Governance and Competitiveness Development Policy Operation (DPO) for the Kyrgyz Republic. The operation – the first in a series of two consecutive budget support operations – comprises a highly concessional credit of $13.2 million and a grant of $10.8 million from the International Development Association, the World Bank said.
