Turkmenistan’s president nominated for new term

ASHGABAT (TCA) — A Conference of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the country’s dominant party, has nominated incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov as its candidate in the country’s presidential election scheduled for February 12, 2017, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

Astana hosts Kazakhstan-Israel business forum

ASTANA (TCA) — As part of the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Kazakhstan on December 14, Astana hosted a Kazakhstan-Israel business forum organized by the Ministry for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan and national export and investment agency KAZNEX INVEST with the support of the Embassy of Israel in Kazakhstan, the ministry reported.

Israeli prime minister visits Kazakhstan

ASTANA (TCA) — Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Astana on December 14. The two leaders discussed economic, trade and medical cooperation, and signed documents related to visa-free travel, aviation communications, and agricultural cooperation.

White collar crime in Central Asia: the case of Uzbekistan (part 3)

BISHKEK (TCA) — In Kazakhstan, a crooked private entrepreneurial sector emerged in the early years of independence and “poisoned” the state-run part of the economy. In Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the opposite happened as corrupt regimes entangled the private sector, forcing entrepreneurs to comply with white collar crime in state echelons and thus become involved in it themselves. The case of Uzbekistan is more complicated, since it appears to involve international fraud chains along with local culprits.
