Uzbekistan’s Karakalpakstan region attracts foreign investors

TASHKENT (TCA) — The International Investment Forum Karakalpakstan was held in Nukus, the main city of Uzbekistan’s northwestern region of Karakalpakstan. The two-day forum was attended by representatives of international organizations from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Pakistan, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, the Jahon information agency reported on November 19.

Kazakhstan holds meeting of Council on Improving Investment Climate

NUR-SULTAN (TCA) — A meeting of the Council on Improving the Investment Climate in Kazakhstan was held on November 18, chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin. It considered the issues of developing a competitive environment in the Kazakhstani economy in accordance with the requirements of the World Trade Organization and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the prime minister’s press service reported.

Uzbekistan to improve rural services, infrastructure with community participation

TASHKENT (TCA) — The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a $100 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Prosperous Villages Project in Uzbekistan. The project will improve the quality of basic infrastructure, including schools, roads and internet service, with village residents deciding collectively which priorities will receive funding, the World Bank said.

Turkmenistan needs improved competitiveness, currency convertibility — IMF

ASHGABAT (TCA) — Reducing the footprint of the state and opening the economy to competition are important to promote economic efficiency and market development in Turkmenistan, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission said in a statement following its visit to Ashgabat earlier this month. The IMF mission assessed recent developments and discussed economic and financial policy priorities with senior Turkmen government officials, representatives of the business and financial sectors, and the diplomatic community.
