Uzbekistan’s Karakalpakstan region attracts foreign investors

TASHKENT (TCA) — The International Investment Forum Karakalpakstan was held in Nukus, the main city of Uzbekistan’s northwestern region of Karakalpakstan. The two-day forum was attended by representatives of international organizations from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Pakistan, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, the Jahon information agency reported on November 19.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes (parliament) of the Republic of Karakalpakstan M. Yerniyazov, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan E. Ganiyev, welcoming foreign investors, spoke about the work being done at the initiative of Uzbekistan’s president to attract foreign investors to Uzbekistan and create favorable conditions for them, increase production that meets the requirements of the global market for products and increase its export potential.

The forum was aimed at creating industrial enterprises and new jobs in the Aral Sea region by attracting foreign investors, as well as familiarizing participants with the investment, export and tourism potential of the region, customs and tax benefits provided to investors.

Following the forum, 18 trade and economic agreements worth 313 million USD were reached.

Participants of the international forum visited the city of Nukus, as well as Nukus, Khojeyli, and Kanlikul districts, and got acquainted with the activities of large industrial enterprises. An exhibition of products “Made in Karakalpakstan” was held as part of the forum.
