BISHKEK (TCA) — In April 2017, the external environment improved to an extent for Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) member countries — Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, due to growing optimism in the world markets associated with improvements in the global economy. These are the findings of the Macroeconomic Review prepared by the Chief Economist Group at EDB.

BISHKEK (TCA) — A trade mission of Kazakhstan producers, organized by the National Company KAZAKH INVEST and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, was held in Bishkek. As a result of the event, export contracts were signed for the supply of products worth $11.8 million, the official website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported on May 4.

DUSHANBE (TCA) — The people of Tajikistan and local enterprises will gain access to a more reliable supply of electricity with the approval, on May 3, of US$225.7 million in financing from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Nurek Rehabilitation Project. The World Bank financing, one-quarter in grants and three-quarters in credits, will refurbish the Nurek Hydropower Plant in Tajikistan, the Bank said.

BISHKEK (TCA) — UNDP in Kyrgyzstan has informed about the launch of a new project “Strong and Inclusive Parliamentary Democracy” aimed at strengthening parliamentary democracy in Kyrgyzstan, ensuring its transparency and accountability to citizens. The project will be implemented by UNDP in Kyrgyzstan and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The total budget of the project for 10 years is 9.8 million Swiss francs, the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic said on May 3.
