Turkmen Designers Present Their Works at an Evening of Art in Brussels

An evening dedicated to Turkmen art and traditions, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan within the framework of cultural exchange, was held in Brussels. The event brought together cultural sector representatives from Central Asia and Europe, including fashion and art figures. The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, opened the meeting, noting that Turkmen culture is a heritage that needs to be protected and passed on to new generations. The diplomat emphasized the role of cultural diplomacy as a means of strengthening ties between peoples. “Culture has always been a neutral sphere that unites people," Palvanov stated. An essential part of the program was a speech dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the great poet, Makhtumkuli. The Ambassador spoke about how his ideas continue to inspire not only Turkmen, but people of other nations, influencing Turkmenistan's cultural ties with Europe. The evening's guests were presented with the works of talented Turkmen designers, Sheker Akiniyazova, Shemshat Tachmammedova, and Ogulbeg Berdimiradov. Their collections combined traditional elements with modern fashion. The designers also participated in the Brussels cultural program and presented at European institutions. Elena Kharitonova, founder of Caravan Cultura CreArt Agency in the Netherlands who co-organized the event emphasized the preservation of cultural values through modern projects and her support for young Turkmen designers.

Kazakhstan and Belgium Poised to Expand Bilateral Trade

On 8 April, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration, Kairat Torebayev attended a meeting in Brussels with Rose Donck, Director, Head of Department State Visits – Belgian Economic Missions of the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency. The parties discussed the potential expansion of bilateral trade and an agreement was made to organize a business forum with the participation of Kazakh and Belgian companies later this year in Belgium. The last economic mission of Belgium to Kazakhstan took place back in 2010, and according to Ms. Donck, the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency is currently planning a seminar on investment, trade, and economic opportunities in Kazakhstan for 200 Belgian companies in the very near future.

Kazakhstan and Belgium’s Province of Walloon Brabant to Expand Cooperation On December 11th, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium, Margulan Baimukhan made a working visit to the province of Walloon Brabant, where he met with the Governor of the region, Gilles Mahieu, Administrator of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Walloon Brabant, Christophe Lebrun, and District Commissioner of the region, Christophe Baes. During the meeting there was a presentation about the economic and scientific-educational potential of the region. The Kazakh diplomat spoke about the current state of Kazakhstan-Belgium, Kazakhstan-European and CA-EU relations. The main emphasis was placed on projects in the field of transportation, green economy, and rare earth metals. Ambassador Baimukhan also informed those gathered about the activities of the Kazakh-Belgian Business Council, and the upcoming business missions of Belgian companies and European agro-industrial firms to Kazakhstan in 2024. Following the meeting, it was agreed that a detailed presentation on economic and investment opportunities in Kazakhstan for business circles in Walloon Brabant would be prepared. Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Belgium amounted to $514.5 million in 2022. Indicators for the period January-August 2023 amounted to $375.3 million, which is 6.7% higher than for the same period in the previous year. Gross direct investment from Belgium to Kazakhstan in 2022 amounted to $1.5 billion.
