First agreements signed for uranium mining legacy fund for Central Asia

Kazakhstan to reduce uranium production to maintain global prices

ASTANA (TCA) — Askar Zhumagaliyev, the chairman of Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom, on January 10 announced that due to the prolonged recovery in the uranium market, planned 2017 production from Kazakhstan will be reduced by approximately 10 percent. This will amount to a volume greater than 2,000 MtU or more than 5 million lb U3O8, which is equal to 3 percent of total global uranium production, Kazatomprom said. Continue reading

Kazakhstan’s national atomic company embarks on transformation program

ASTANA (TCA) — Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom plans to implement a total of 26 projects by the end of 2018 as part of its Transformation program which will bring to Kazatomprom an economic effect in the amount exceeding KZT 130 billion by 2025, the company’s CEO Askar Zhumagaliyev said on October 21 at the meeting of Business Modernization and Transformation Board, presenting the key results of the company’s Transformation Roadmap for the current year, the company reported. OSCE opens information centres in Kyrgyzstan to raise awareness on uranium legacy remediation

BISHKEK (TCA) — The Office of the OSCE Coordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and they Aarhus Centre in Osh on September 14 opened the first Public Environmental Information Centres (PEIC) in the towns of Mailuu-Suu and Shekaftar of Jalal-Abad region in southern Kyrgyzstan as well as in Min-Kush, Naryn region, in the northern part of the country, the OSCE Centre in Bishkek said.
