UN secretary-general visits Aral Sea disaster area in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT (TCA) — As part of his visit to Central Asia, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on June 10 visited the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan – once the world's fourth largest inland sea, that has now shrunk to about a quarter of its original size due to human mismanagement. The UN chief urged the world to take lesson from the catastrophe and to ensure that such tragedies are not repeated, the UN News Centre reported. Continue reading

Uzbekistan developing economy, tourism in Aral Sea area

TASHKENT (TCA) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved a Comprehensive Development Program for Muynak District of Karakalpakstan Autonomous Region for 2017-2018, the Jahon information agency reported. During two years, the program plans to implement 72 projects in industry, services and agricultural processing in the district located in the area of the shrinking Aral Sea. Continue reading
