DUSHANBE (TCA) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $30 million financial assistance including a $5 million grant and technical assistance from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) to boost agriculture production and food security by improving water resource management of the Pyanj River Basin in Tajikistan, ADB’s country office in Dushanbe said. BISHKEK (TCA) — More than 100,000 people living in the poor rural areas of Kyrgyzstan are expected to benefit from improved access to quality water and sanitation services thanks to US $23.5 million in financing for the Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Project, approved by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors. ALMATY (TCA) — The Central Asia Water Future Forum and Expo is being held on September 19-22 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Organized by the World Bank, the event brings together over 200 policy makers and practitioners from governments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan, the international community of water practitioners, as well as regional learning institutions, universities, civil society and media representatives, the World Bank said. BISHKEK (TCA) — The City of Bishkek on September 14 took delivery of five more specialised vehicles which will be used to modernise the city’s water and wastewater networks. The project, which also involves a corporate development programme for the municipal water utility, is financially supported by the Government of Switzerland and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
