BISHKEK (TCA) — Kyrgyzstan’s First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Suiun Omurzakov and the Director of the Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek Sandeep Paul on July 10 inaugurated the Local Crime Prevention Center (LCPC) in Amir-Temur, a neighborhood in Osh City with a population of 52,000 facing issues of unemployment, domestic violence, drug addiction, forced early marriage, and youth involvement in radical and violent groups. The Amir-Temur LCPC represents a true partnership with 64 percent (approximately $15,000) of the funding provided by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), 18 percent (approximately $4,500) by the Osh City Mayor’s Office; 11 percent (approximately $2,600) by the Osh City Directorate on Employment, Migration and Youth; and the remaining 7 percent (almost $2,000) by the local community, the US Embassy reported. BISHKEK (TCA) — The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Aga Khan Foundation and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation in Kyrgyzstan have joined forces to support the most vulnerable households in Chon Alai district of Osh oblast in south Kyrgyzstan affected by the earthquakes of May 2017, the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic said on June 28. OSH, Kyrgyzstan (TCA) — 30 brand new buses have arrived in Osh, the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan. The buses are part of a project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) that aims to boost safe and accessible public transport services in the city. It will also include the purchase of 24 low-floor, accessible trolley buses in the near future and pay for the modernisation of the municipal depot, the EBRD said. Continue reading

OSH, Kyrgyzstan (TCA) — From October 11-20, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) trained representatives of 20 small hotels and guest houses in Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh on hospitality, marketing, and promotion. The U.S. Government, through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative project, provided these results oriented trainings that will help to strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s tourism sector and businesses, the US Embassy in Bishkek said.
