EU project in Tajikistan to promote the rights of prisoners and ex-prisoners

DUSHANBE (TCA) — The Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan said it is supporting a new project “Human Rights Protection for Prisoners and Ex-prisoners in Tajikistan” within the framework of the program “European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) Country Based Support Schemes (CBSS) for Tajikistan”. The project will be implemented by the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) together with two local partners – Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law and NGO Jahon. The project is funded by the European Commission (75%) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (25%). Continue reading

Turkmenistan elected to UNICEF Executive Board for 2018-2020

ASHGABAT (TCA) — United Nations Children’s Fund on April 25 congratulated the Government of Turkmenistan for having been elected to the UNICEF Executive Board for the period 2018-2020 and to the Commission on Status of Women for four years. U.S. government helps protect the rights of Kyrgyzstan migrant workers abroad

BISHKEK (TCA) — On April 10, the U.S. Government through USAID launched two information terminals at Manas International Airport in Bishkek to prevent human trafficking and protect the rights of Kyrgyzstani migrants traveling abroad, the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan said. Ten additional kiosks will be installed across the country. The kiosks will inform travelers about their rights and steps they can take to avoid becoming victims of human trafficking. The estimated 700,000 Kyrgyzstani migrants living and working abroad face frequent discrimination and a high risk of falling prey to human traffickers. Continue reading

Uzbekistan: human rights activist forced into psychiatric detention

LONDON (TCA) — A prominent human rights activist has been forcibly subjected to psychiatric treatment in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. On March 1, 2017 Yelena Urlayeva, the chairperson of the Human Rights Alliance of Uzbekistan (HRAU) was arrested by police, who called an emergency psychiatric ambulance which transported her to hospital.
