ASTANA (TCA) — Nazarbayev University in Astana on November 21 hosted a round-table meeting which explored the theme “Policy and Research for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kazakhstan”. The meeting was part of a series of other events that raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), enabling countries to tailor the Goals to their needs. ASHGABAT (TCA) — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Turkmen State Committee for Nature Protection and Land Management promote sustainable urban development in Turkmenistan. The topic is important as the country is actively developing its urban infrastructure, which is one of the sustainable development goals. In Turkmenistan, the number of urban population exceeded rural in 2014, and this trend is accelerating, Mark Chao, UNDP International Expert on Energy, Environment and Climate Change, said in an interview with UNDP Turkmenistan. DUSHANBE (TCA) — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Governments of Tajikistan and Japan on September 7 signed a new, four year project that is expected to benefit people in Tajikistan and Afghanistan (Badakhshan, Takhar and Kunduz Provinces) through strengthening the two countries’ disaster risk reduction and response capacities and the promotion of cross-border cooperation with Afghanistan to improve disaster response in line with the call under the latest “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, UNDP Tajikistan reported. ASTANA (TCA) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Development Programme, the Government of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency on 19 August launched a pilot project of Kazakhstan’s ODA aimed at expanding economic independence and rights of Afghan women and entitled “Promoting Kazakhstan’s ODA Cooperation with Afghanistan”. The project will mark Kazakhstan’s first international cooperation for Afghanistan in the framework of national system of Official Development Assistance (ODA), while it helps Kazakhstan to strengthen its ability to administer its future ODA. The project is financed by the Government of Japan through the UNDP-Japan Partnership Fund, UNDP Kazakhstan reported. Continue reading
