ASHGABAT (TCA) — The government of Turkmenistan is working on a draft concept for the establishment of free economic zones in the country until 2023, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.
Speaking at the Government meeting on March 17, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B. Hojamammedov said that the document would be developed for integrated and rational use of rich mineral resources of the country, increase of export potential, establishment of import substituting productions, implementation of innovative technologies, attraction of foreign investments and establishment of joint ventures. The draft Concept will define key directions for the development of free economic zones in the country.
At the Government meeting, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov also stressed the attention on key aspects of implementation of the energy strategy of Turkmenistan, which is aimed at intensive development and modernization of the country’s oil and gas industry based on introduction of advanced innovative technologies, expansion of industrial infrastructure of the fuel and energy complex, optimal use of the country’s huge hydrocarbon resources, and increase in cooperation with all interested parties.
The head of state also focused on the importance of searching for new ways to export products of Turkmen manufacturers.
The Government meeting also reviewed implementation of the state program for the development of import substitution in the country’s industrial sector and establishment of domestic electronic production. It was reported that joint ventures based on government and private partnership are being established in the country.
