Turkmenistan to build new gas chemical plant

ASHGABAT (TCA) — Turkmenistan is working on the project of construction of a new gas chemical complex near Kiyanly settlement in Balkan province. It was said at the meeting of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers late last week, chaired by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

This complex is designed for processing of 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 117 thousand tons of sodium chloride. It will produce 390 thousand tons of polypropylene, 200 thousand tons of low density linear polyethylene, 100 thousand tons of polyvinylchloride, 82 thousand tons of caustic soda, 10 thousand tons of hydrochloric acid and 10 thousand tons of liquid chlorine per annum.

This large investment project is to be implemented together with foreign partners. At the present moment, proposals from the tender participants are under evaluation.

Speaking at the Cabinet meeting, President Berdymukhammedov said that it is necessary to speed up the work for industrial development of new hydrocarbon deposits including in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as for development of gas processing and construction of modern industrial complexes.

In this context, the President gave the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the oil and gas sector specific instructions on attraction of foreign investors in the country’s fuel and energy sector, and on further expansion of beneficial cooperation with large international companies that have good experience and advanced technologies in oil and gas sphere.
