DUSHANBE (TCA) — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in partnership with the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) of the Climate Investment Funds, held an event to mark the formal launch of CLIMADAPT, the Tajikistan Climate Resilience Financing Facility, on February 3 in Dushanbe. CLIMADAPT aims to help Tajik households, businesses and farmers cope with the effects of climate change and to support the country’s transition towards a green economy, the EBRD press office said. LONDON (TCA) — China, and to lesser extents Russia, have been unloading coffers full of billions to spread their wings over Central Asia. The par value of the assets which have been taken by the generous-looking fund providers has changed dramatically and regretfully for the worse. That there can be no investments without returns is something the Chinese have known from the start, the Russians are realising that right now, and Central Asian states would realise that soon. BISHKEK (TCA) — On January 22, President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev signed laws on denunciation of agreements between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Russia on construction and operation of Kambarata-1 hydropower plant (HPP) and the Upper Naryn HPPs cascade. The agreements were signed on September 20, 2012 in Bishkek during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kyrgyzstan. Continue reading
