New rail service launched from Kazakhstan to Turkey via Trans-Caspian route

ASTANA (TCA) — The first container train with a batch of non-ferrous metals was sent from Kazakhstan’s rail station Novoustkamenogorsk to the Turkish port of Derince. The train of 88-mi 20-foot containers will follow along the Trans-Caspian Transport Route (TITR) through the port of Kuryk and the water area of the Caspian Sea. The cargo will be delivered to Istanbul within 15 days, the press service of Kazakhstan’s KTZ Express company said on August 16.

“Our company is aimed at increasing the volume of container transportation through the Trans-Caspian corridor, which has a number of advantages. First of all, it reduces the delivery time two-fold due to the use of the infrastructure of the port of Kuryk, which increases the competitiveness of products. A monthly regular dispatch of a container train with an increase in the volume of traffic is planned,” said Deputy Director for Container Transportation of KTZ Express-KTZE Operator, G. Zhusupova.

Since October 2017, the Kuryk port has handled grain transportation from northern regions of Kazakhstan to Turkey.

In order to create an efficient logistics service along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, shippers are offered a multimodal scheme of deliveries in containers with the use of railway and sea transport services and using the Kazakhstan transport and logistics infrastructure, the Kazakh company said.
