DUSHANBE (TCA) — The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the European Union on December 19 announced the disbursement of 9.36 million euro as part of the second tranche of the Human Development Support Programme II in Tajikistan, the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan said.
Equity, efficiency and improved quality of health care and social services constitute the core principles of this budget support. The Human Development Support programme aims at contributing towards the achievement of key policy objectives in both health and social protection, thereby enabling more effective assistance to vulnerable segments of the population, the EU Delegation said.
Within the health sector, the programme aims at strengthening timely and cost effective supplies of quality pharmaceuticals at Primary Health Care facilities and rayon (district) hospitals. Within the social protection sector, the programme will help Tajikistan in meeting technical requirements necessary to implement pension system reforms and providing nationwide comprehensive coverage to all relevant groups.
The European Union and the Republic of Tajikistan signed in 2014 the Human Development Support Programme II, as a programme in support of the implementation of reforms in the Health and Social Protection sectors in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan, one of the poorest countries in Central Asia, is much dependent on financial support from foreign donors and international organizations for achieving its economic and social development goals.
