TASHKENT (TCA) — A new terminal, Tashkent-4, will be constructed in the international airport of Uzbekistan’s capital city, Tashkent. The terminal is being designed by South Korean specialists, Novosti Uzbekistana news agency reported.
Representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have presented in Tashkent official results of a feasibility study for the terminal’s construction, said the press service of the Uzbek Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. Preparation of the feasibility study was started in January this year and is to be completed this July.
The new terminal will be constructed in four years. Its area will be twice as much as that of the existing international terminal at the Tashkent airport.
The new terminal will be able to serve 1.5 thousand passengers per hour.
According to the Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan, this project will become a new stage in Uzbek-Korean cooperation. The government of South Korea will take every effort to turn the Tashkent airport into a Central Asia air hub by introducing Korean know-how and best practices in airport construction and maintenance.
The project’s feasibility study is being prepared by a South Korean consortium headed by the airport’s managing company, Inchen. This work is financed by the Korean side.
Construction of the new international terminal is estimated to cost $312 million. Most of this amount — around $300 million — is expected to come in foreign, in particular Korean, investments and loans.
