BISHKEK (TCA) — A Turkish-German company plans to build a waste utilization plant in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh, the press service of the Kyrgyz Economy Ministry said.
The issue was discussed on March 28 at the meeting of Kyrgyz Economy Minister Arzybek Kojoshev and the general director of Erler Energy Adelman, which builds modern waste processing plants in Turkey and Europe.
The project is estimated to cost $55 million, and would create 150-200 jobs for local residents. The company also plans to build a residential compound, a polyclinic, a kindergarten, and a sports center in the city.
Minister Kojoshev emphasized profitable tariffs for electricity generated through burning solid waste, in line with Kyrgyzstan’s law on renewable energy sources. The minister promised his support in implementing the project and proposed the Turkish company consider similar projects in the Kyrgyz cities of Jalal-Abad, Tokmok, and Kara-Balta.
Last year the municipality of Osh signed a protocol of intention with South Korean company LSIS Co. Ltd for construction of a solid waste processing plant in Kyrgyzstan’s second largest city.
The project was supposed to build a solid waste processing plant, a waste sorting line, and greenhouses in Osh. The Korean company was ready to invest $35 million in the project, the Osh municipal press service said at the time.
The plant would be able to process 100 tons of solid waste per day. Electricity from burning waste was supposed to heat and light the greenhouses.
