BISHKEK (TCA) — On December 3, the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the Republican Youth and Children’s Library named after Bayalinov, will formally launch a new Center for Inclusive Education in Bishkek. The Center is named Kamkor (“caring” in Kyrgyz language) to reflect the desire to include people of various ages, backgrounds and physical abilities in U.S. supported programs, the embassy said.
Kamkor, the first center of its kind in Kyrgyzstan, is handicap accessible and is outfitted with specialized equipment for people with physical limitations. The U.S. Embassy allocated $37,250 to renovate and adjust the center, to purchase devices and books for the people with special needs. Kamkor will offer a variety of programming for all visitors including English language classes, coding and other income-generating skills workshops, and cultural programs. The library’s Embassy-supported Maker Space will also offer specialized programs and activities to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities.
On March 14, 2019, the government of the Kyrgyz Republic ratified the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Kamkor Center is the latest effort by the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic to support the Kyrgyz Government to create a more inclusive society.
Representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan and the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, civil society activists, and general public will attend the opening ceremony.
The Kamkor Center is located at Bayalinov library, 242 Ogonbaev Street and will be open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
