ASTANA (TCA) — Investors from Iran are planning to grow grain crops in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe province, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with reference to the press service of the province’s governor.
An Iranian company has asked the province’s administration to allocate 100 thousand hectares of land for grain crops cultivation, the press service said.
Agreement has been reached to allocate 10 thousand hectares to the Iranian company in 2016. Next year the regional authorities plan to give the investors an additional 100 thousand hectares of farmland.
Another company from Iran is planning to develop sheep breeding in the Aktobe province. They proposed to the province administration to conclude a long-term agreement on cooperation for increasing the number of sheep in the region and improving their productivity. The Iranian company is also considering building in the province of a greenhouse of 40 hectares and an animal farm for up to 10 thousand heads of cattle and 100 thousand heads of sheep.
It was earlier reported that a company from Iran planned to grow safflower (an oil-bearing crop) in Kazakhstan’s Kostanai province and build a plant for its processing.
The Kostanai province’s Governor Arkhimed Mukhambetov said that the province administration and Kaz-Ir-Agro company had signed a memorandum of cooperation according to which the Iranian company will grow safflower in two districts of the province and plans to build a plant to produce safflower oil.
Investments in the project will amount to $5 million.
