Kyrgyzstan: Switzerland will support OSCE Academy in Bishkek for next three years

BISHKEK (TCA) — An agreement in which Switzerland commits to allocate CHF 430,000 (approximately EUR 370,000) in support of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek over the next three years was signed by the Swiss Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Véronique Hulmann and the Head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Programme Office in Bishkek, Pierre von Arx on December 14 in Bishkek. The grant will be used to strengthen the Academy’s research capacities.

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek was established in 2002 as a result of the partnership between the OSCE and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. Currently, it offers two Master’s programmes on security and development issues for students from the Central Asian region, Afghanistan and Mongolia. One of the Academy’s objectives is to prepare these students and young professionals to take up responsible positions in national governments and international organizations, thereby to sustainably contribute to the development of the region.

The mission of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek is to promote regional cooperation, conflict prevention and good governance in Central Asia through offering post-graduate education, professional trainings and intellectual exchange.
