Kazakh agricultural export totaled $1.1 billion in 2015

ASTANA (TCA) — Last year Kazakhstan’s export of agricultural products amounted to US $1.1 billion, increasing 1.3-fold over the last five years, the official website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported.

The volume of Kazakhstan’s gross agricultural output increased by 4.4 percent in 2015 and amounted to 2.7 trillion tenge, the Ministry of Agriculture reported, saying that the country’s agricultural area is currently more than 200 million hectares.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev said at a press conference on April 5 that Kazakhstan could take one of the key positions in food security among Islamic states.

“It is known that our country exports wheat. We believe that the establishment of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) within the framework of various projects and programs will increase wheat exports by 1 million tons per year,” Kosherbayev said.
 
He also said that today, the Islamic world is home to 1.7 billion people in 56 countries, and Kazakhstan may take one of the key positions in the food security not only in these countries but also use the Organization to strengthen its domestic food security.

The deputy minister added that activities of the new Organization will be determined at its forthcoming first session which will be held within the framework of the 7th session of the Food Security Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Development of Agriculture.
