Kyrgyzstan: agriculture forum to explore trade and investment opportunities

BISHKEK (TCA) — On June 5 and 6, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will host an Agriculture Trade and Investment Forum in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to bring together 200 agricultural producers, entrepreneurs, government officials, and investors to help them build market linkages, explore investment opportunities and learn new ways to finance agricultural production, the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan said.

The forum’s opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 5, from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. at Asanbay Center (21/11 Aaly Tokombaev St, Bishkek).

The forum will feature an exhibition of agricultural products, roundtable discussions, business-to-business meetings, a photo gallery, and short videos featuring major accomplishments of the USAID Agro Horizon project. The event will conclude with a graduation ceremony of youth interns in agriculture, an initiative that was launched by USAID to strengthen human capital in agriculture.

Attendees expected to attend the opening ceremony include Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Muhammedkaly Abylgaziev, Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Alan Meltzer, Minister of Economy Oleg Pankratov, and Minister of Agriculture Nurbek Murashev.

The USAID Agro Horizon Project works to increase productivity of Kyrgyz agricultural producers and link them to markets, improve access to capital in agriculture, and generate employment. The project partners with agribusinesses to develop their supply base, upgrade their facilities and equipment, adopt quality and food safety standards, improve their management systems, and expand their markets.
