Uzbekistan, South Korea expand economic cooperation

TASHKENT (TCA) — Seoul last week hosted Korea–Uzbekistan First Working Group Meeting on monitoring the implementation of agreements reached during the previous bilateral summits, the official Uzbek information agency Jahon reported.

Among them are agreements on organization of a visit of South Korean business representatives to Uzbekistan, joint work on studying the issue of signing the Free Trade Agreement, assisting the Korean side in the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, and opening access for Uzbek fruits and vegetables to the Korean market.

At the event, Uzbekistan’s delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade L. Kudratov.

The parties discussed issues of accelerating the implementation of joint investment projects. Views were exchanged in the field of effective functioning of research centers for development of industry in Uzbekistan, introduction of digital healthcare in the country, strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical field and implementation of projects in various areas.

The next meeting of the working group will be held in September, in Tashkent.

Also last week, Seoul hosted Uzbekistan–Korea Business Forum on fuel and energy sector.

It was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, associations, research institutes, leading companies operating in the oil and gas, chemical, metallurgical, exploration, construction and other industries.

Detailed information was provided at the forum on the possibilities of implementing joint projects, favorable conditions, benefits and preferences created in Uzbekistan within the framework of free economic zones.

Agreements have been reached on organization of visits to Uzbekistan of delegations of South Korean companies to discuss new projects.
