ASTANA (TCA) — A memorandum between the municipality of Kazakhstan’s capital Astana, the State Revenue Committee of the Kazakh Finance Ministry, and the company Uber was signed on June 10 in Astana, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan reported.
Uber is known for its mobile application which allows by a few clicks of the mouse to order a car with a driver and then track its movement to the final destination. One of the main requirements which has given Uber the opportunity to enter the Kazakh market starting with Astana is the condition to work with individual entrepreneurs only and the need to pay for services by a bank card.
This condition was voiced at a briefing for the media and confirmed by the regional manager of Uber for the CIS, Alex Stakh.
He said that the company acts as a platform, creating a digital exchange which can be operated by its partners — individual entrepreneurs and legal entities.
Uber now operates in 70 countries. The company’s management believes that the arrival of Uber in Astana will allow improving the service for Astana residents in need for urgent taxi services. “It is very important that you can call the cab from any part of Astana within five minutes,” said Stakh. He also expressed confidence that “we help to solve the problem of self-employment, especially in times when the economy is being transformed and some people lose their jobs.”
